We have new legislation, trying to protect the independent contractor from unfair, unconscionable or unjust bargaining or circumstances where they may be paid less than a comparable employee. Obviously all workers need to be protected from unscrupulous empoyers.
But it is worth remembering that the purpose of having contractors is to give flexibility to both parties and to have remuneration based on productivity not mere hourly attendance. I must say having had both employees who “manufactured” work or busyness and now contractors who work when needed and not in down times and balance this by having a number of clients......
This is a fascinating double video:
First by an architect growing houses from living plants and from cultured MEAT cells – yes really meat – watch it to believe it!
Then the second half of the video is the clearest explanation of how a smart grid for electricity works
Both are well worth watching but especially the second half..............................

The Brumby government has expanded an energy-saving scheme to target up to 500,000 small and medium businesses which promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.4 million tonnes a year – roughly equivalent to 1 per cent of national emissions...........
The Climate Institute has declared that the Coalition’s policies would more effectively tackle climate change than those announced so far by the government.
The think tank’s analysis concludes that, under Labor, Australia’s emissions levels would increase 21 per cent by 2020 from 2000, while under the Coalition, they would rise by just 7 per cent.
The Climate Institute has created a “pollute-o-meter” to rate the parties’ green policies in the lead-up to the election.............

The NSW Government has shifted the emphasis towards increased waste recovery, The new provisions replace the previous limited requirement to consider whether a proposal had demonstrated there was “justifiable demand” for the facility.................
New Zealand have done it!
They started with the Waste Minimisation Act (WMA) in 2008 that included a waste disposal levy, product stewardship, defined responsibilities for territorial authorities and a Waste Minimisation Fund. Product stewardship is important in the recycling story and it has been in place in much of Europe for years where manufacturers need to take back and manage merchandise they sold.
This ties in with some of my previous articles about what is happening with e-waste, batteries and fluoro light globes.
Then have included the waste sector in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS). The government’s approach is ‘all gases, all inclusive’, with a target of a 10% to 20% reduction................
Have you noticed that today’s consumer has more information than ever to make their purchasing decisions?
And this is about real ‘information’, not just image but about how the business operates and the breakdown of its products and/or services.
You are probably already finding that a shift is taking place and it’s in favour of consumer empowerment. It’s driven in part by the masses of....................
