I know some people worry about the cost of auditing which can seem daunting. You can shop around the auditing companies and choose the one you feel will give you best value for money but don't panic too much about the cost because when you are certified you will attract more customers and those extra customers more than pay for your auditor fee Or simply implement and inhouse system to help your business.

Around two thirds of my clients choose to be externally audited and the others choose to complete their system and self audit. This does save them money and it certinly reduces their risk, but they do not get all the benefits of having an external auditor look at your system and give you opportunities for improvement because they see things that you miss.

And now or small and micro businesses, there is also a simplified environmental certification called Enviro Cert. This is still audited by fully qualified auditors and managed by a normal certification body. It has been designed to help small and micro businesses and can be a stepping stone to ISO 14001 as your business grows. This same group training will get you ready for both Enviro Cert and for ISO 14001 and you will not meed more training to upgrade to ISO 14001 later if you want to.
