Want to know a secret?
The well kept secret is that risk mananagement and ISO systems like quality, safety and environment should be EASY! Plus they make your life easier and save you money when they are kept simple. And risks are there in every business.
The issue is that like most people, you are unaware of most of your risks until they happen. And the other problem is that most business owners would rather go to the dentist than think about how to prevent these risks and have a management system. They have seen too many systems that were put in by people who don't really understand how systems work so they build a mountain of paper. Then they get a quality manager in who shores up his empire by making the job bigger with even more paper and red tape. That approach is simply B*****it! You can and should have a simple system that questions every piece of paper and restricts policies and SOPs to one page because otherwise they will be ignored. And by restricting paper, I do not mean simply going electronic. That is just another media for "paper".
Meanwhile, let me ask, do you spend a lot of time with your head down and your bum up in your business, hoping that things will go away? At one level it may look like you are right - the SA Parliament has adjourned debate on the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Bill until 14 February 2012, the new WHS legislation will not commence on 1 January as has been mooted. Other states are in a similar situation. This is NOT an invitation to relax! The new safety has NOT gone away!
… all because you did not want to be bothered with a safety management system.
Plus it is the first third of an integrated ISO system that gets you ready for as much as you want of ISO 9001 quality, AS/NZS 4801 safety and ISO 14001 environment, This has to be the best value training course around.
My kindest regards Jean P.S. I am being repetative here - because the issue around risk management is serious and could lose you your business and your family home so I want to help you to prevent that! Order your workshop copy here Articles How many employers just don’t know?
The two directors of a Yorke Peninsula manufacturing firm have been fined more than $56,000 plus costs over an incident in which a young worker was injured by a machine, and their failure to report that and another incident. Drug and alcohol testing is “reasonable”
In a landmark case, Fair Work Australia has ruled that requiring drug and alcohol tests is a “reasonable” request from an employer. However you need a robust drug and alcohol policy. China’s conditions for a legally binding climate deal
China’s top climate negotiator Xie Zhenhua has laid out conditions for Beijing to accept a legally binding climate deal after 2020, when current voluntary pledges run out.
How much can green building save us?
A new study backed by Sustainability Victoria has found that carbon-neutral houses could save owners $300,000, if a minimum of 7.5-star rating is achieved.
A proposed $100 million eco-village at Cape Paterson, in South Gippsland, found rising energy and water bills and cheaper solar panels and sustainable appliances have made a large green development cost effective. 80.4% of drink containers recovered in SA
The big success is achieving a recovery rate of 80.4% for drink containers, up from 69.9% in 2007-2008. The container deposit legislation really works and it is a mystery to me why it is not used in other states to increase recycling. Phone 1300 88 3646, Fax 1300 88 2283, SMS (not voice) 0416 905109 |
