Note from Jean
Thank you and congratulations because reading regular information about what is happening in environmental management and global warming is important in helping us to take steps to reduce the problems that we face.
To be viable in business you need to be able to manage rising energy and other prices and to be able to access the increasing “green” market. These are two things that my ISO 14001 training and coaching program gives you.
When I was interviewed on Drive Radio in Canberra last week, we were talking about using dishwashers which I certainly do. Formerly I lived in a rural area on only rainwater, I measured the amount of water used to wash by hand for two weeks and compared it with the amount used with a dishwasher for the same period and went out and bought one. The energy used heating the water does not increase and the small pump used is not exactly an energy guzzler. The increased time allowed me to do other more useful things. I scrape my dishes with a spatula instead of rinsing them and only run the machine when it is full. You may be interested to look at Seven top things to reduce your carbon footprint.
When you join the group training course online I give you a digital copy of my latest book “Reduce Your Carbon Footprint” and you get my highly effective training and coaching for less than one third the price you would pay for other consultancy and because you understand your own system, you will make even more savings. I guarantee that you will save this cost within the first year.
Featured Article – Putting the seafood industry into perspective
This week I was a speaker at the Abalone Conference in Port Lincoln and I really enjoyed the conference.
One speaker made an interesting contrast between managing the seafood industry and managing the cattle (or any other land-based livestock) industry. It was a mind-blowing thought!
Imagine cattle farming where there was also:
• Wild cow harvesting by commercial operators
• Wild cow harvesting by recreational operators
• Plus environmental values with the various community and green groups wandering through and lobbying vigorously against the farming.
An extra thought is that for a true comparison
• Imagine that this is also mixed with pigs, sheep, turkeys etc wandering freely around.
• And perhaps a few tigers (sharks) making holes in the fencing to eat the farmed cattle. Remember you must bring in the wildlife officers to help you put them outside the fence because they are protected.
What an interesting thought. This is the true comparison. Replace the word “cow” with “fish” and you have the seafood industry described. Think about our local seafood industry and our much cleaner water when you buy fish. I know it is dearer than the famed imports but better quality food often is and we are what we eat.
The last speaker at the conference was from Austrade and based in Taiwan. She was emphasising the importance of a “clean green” image in marketing which tied in very well with me taking about “What is all the “green” stuff. Why does it matter to me?” The interesting question is “how green are you really and can you prove it?

You can start reducing your energy costs by doing a “grumpy walk” at the end of each day and turn off all the lights, chargers, monitors and appliances that are not being used.

Enviro Action Activities
If you have 45 minutes per day then you will find my “Easy to be Green” ISO 14001 training program is just that - Quick and Easy
Compare this program to various carbon traders who offer to come in to your business, do an audit then either sell you light globes or carbon credits.
Who else teaches you HOW to simply and easily audit your own footprint – not only of what you are doing in your office on the day the auditor comes but in your purchasing, waste disposal, travel and more. And you can look at more than just carbon and consider water, air quality as well! What is more you can re-do this at any stage without additional expense because you know how to do it!
The three secret steps to keeping my prices low are:
• Groups share the cost
• Clients pay up front and I pass on the lower bookkeeping costs. My bookkeeper Lilla and I don’t spend a lot of time doing invoices, statements and follow ups and we don’t do slow payments. Plus you get a 10% discount if you pay the full cost up front.
• I seldom do proposals and when I do, I add the cost of preparing it to the quote.
In spite of this, next week the prices go up so apply now to join the next ISO 14001 course at the existing prices.
Because you want to save money now apply for the upfront discount price of $2,400 +gst or choose 4 easy monthly payments of $660 +gst. For this week only you also get the publicity Kit I told you about yesterday so you can easily publicise your green credentials. If you alrady have ISO 9001, there is an easy "Add-On" pathway to fully integrate both systems which is what I have done in my business.

Yea gods! The Australian parliament has actually agreed on some sensible changes to the new luxury car tax. They exempted fuel efficient cars and also for famers and tourism operators. It is a sad thought that the majority, if not all, the fuel efficient cars come in over the “luxury” car threshold. No wonder so few of us drive them! Read more
This is very variable. Real life audits by Best Foot Forward have found IT emissions to vary from 5% to 25% of a business’s emissions. It needs to be carefully calculated and not just go along with “industry averages”..
The real difficulty in calculating the real price is the unknown contribution of the embodied carbon in IT equipment. Read more
The carbon offset market is growing fast and is very unregulated. A year ago there were about 20 Australian companies offering carbon offsets; now there’s close to 60. When you buy carbon offset, you pay to support projects that remove greenhouse gases (GHGs) like carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, or stop them getting there in the first place. Read more
It sounded unbelievable, and it was. The fuel-guzzling V8 Supercars racing series has been forced to withdraw claims it was holding “carbon neutral” events. the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission have investigated and must have any future green marketing checked by lawyers Read more
The Western World created the Global Warming problem so there is no point in pointing our fingers at India and China because they have huge populations who aspire to the western lifestyle. While the west squirms and blames, we also do very little. Read more
