The Recreational fishing lobby is very strong and vocal and wins lots of concessions because of the fear of losing votes. However a recent Parliamentary Enquiry report into NSW Recreational Fishing pointed out that this sector is only 20% of the population and only 10% of those recreational fishers catch 90% of the recreational catch – that is only 2% of the total population are the major recreational fishers.............

Professor of Natural Resource Science, Wayne Meyer from Adelaide says that floodwaters from eastern Australia will do little to restore the Coorong wetlands near the Murray River mouth in the short term despite South Australia receiving the healthiest river flows in more than a decade. He said it will take more than a year to rehabilitate the Ramsar-declared wetlands...................
